Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto and Hero Motocorp jumped 1-2 percent post auto sales data for June. Shares of Reliance Industries, State Bank of India and ITC rose 0.5-1 percent.
Sensex holds 28000 amid consolidation; Reliance, SBI gain
The Indian markets took a breather in the morning deals on Thursday after two days of gains. The BSE benchmark Sensex edged lower and 50-share Nifty was hovering around its crucial psychological level of 8,450.
The Sensex fell 33 points to 27,987 and the Nifty slipped 5 points to 8,448.
Meanwhile, in the opening deals, some amount of selling was visible in banking, power, technology and capital goods stocks. On the other hand, buying interest was seen in select oil & gas, realty, FMCG and pharma stocks.
The broader markets were outer performing the benchmark indices. The BSE mid-cap and small-cap indices gained over 0.5 per cent each.

The Indian rupee slipped marginally to 63.63 a dollar in early trade Thursday compared to 63.61 a dollar in previous session.

Nifty tops 8400, Sensex 28000 as IPO filings cheer D-Street
Equity benchmarks extended gains Wednesday with the 50-share Nifty and 30-share Sensex topping psychological levels of 8400 and 28000 respectively. Brokers said the confidence of companies to file for initial public offerings (IPOs) showed that there were enough investors willing to put money into India amid the ongoing volatility in global markets. The BSE Sensex closed at 28020.87, up 240.04 points or 0.9 percent over its previous close. The 50-share Nifty closed at 8453.05, up 84.55 points or 1 percent over its previous close.
IT, metals, banking, capital goods, realty and banking were the best performing shares of the day with the respective sectoral indices gaining over 1 percent each.

Nifty hits 8400, Sensex up over 100 pts; Hindalco, Lupin up

The S&P BSE Sensex surged as much as 94 points in trade on Wednesday, led by gains in Sun Pharma, L&T, Coal India, ICICI Bank, TCS and RIL.
The 50-share Nifty index rose smartly in trade and was hovering near its next crucial psychological level of 8400. The rally in the index was supported by gains in pharma, capital goods, consumer durable, and realty stocks.
McNally Bharat surged 18%, ABG Shipyard gained 5% and Tata Chemicals was up 4% in intraday trade.
About 382 shares have advanced, 109 shares declined, and 74 shares are unchanged. Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, Hindalco, ONGC and Coal India are top gainers while HUL, Dr Reddy's Labs, NTPC and HDFC twins are major laggards.

The market opened on flat note but has quickly gained even though Greek crisis continues to drag global equities. The Sensex is up 66.98 points at 27712.13 and the Nifty is up 22.50 points at 8340.90. About 575 shares have advanced, 185 shares declined, and 58 shares are unchanged. Coal India, HUL, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Auto and Vedanta are top gainers in the Sensex. Among the losers are NTPC, Dr Reddy's Labs, TCS and Tata Motors. The Indian rupee opened higher by 8 paise at 63.76 per dollar on Tuesday against previous closing of 63.84. The dollar slips, while the euro climbs back above 1.12 to the dollar.

Sensex plunges over 500 pts, Nifty below 8250 on Greek woes
Amid Greek uncertainty, the market has opened with some sever losses. The Sensex is at 27293.25, down 518.59 points or 1.86 percent. The Nifty is down 153.25 points or 1.83% at 8227.85.
