Stock Market Closing Bell

After a choppy session, the market ended on lower levels. The Sensex was down 155.11 points or 0.6 percent at 27735.02 and the Nifty slipped 31.40 points or 0.4 percent at 8398.30. About 1370 shares have advanced, 1442 shares declined, and 155 shares are unchanged.

 Cement and pharma stocks were under pressure while a weak rupee also added pressure on the indices. Sun Pharma, SBI, Tata Motors, NTPC and Wipro were major laggards in the Sensex. Tata Steel remained top gainer, adding 5 percent at day's end. Other gainers were Coal India, Maruti, BHEL and Cipla.

The S&P BSE Sensex mirrored global market and opened on a weak note led by losses in metals, auto and banks. According to dealers, the market is likely to consolidate after 8-day upmove and ahead of the January F&O series expiry. 

The Sensex declined 5.32 points to 29565.72 and the Nifty slipped 7.75 points to 8902.75 despite weak global cues.

"Indices could appear tired at least at start. After closing above the 8,900 mark, the Nifty could take a break. With ECB and Greece behind us, the focus now will be on what the Federal Reserve has to say today," said IIFL report
Tata Motors and Tata Steel falls over a percent while Maruti gained more than 1.5 percent.

The Indian rupee fell marginally in early trade today. The currency has opened at 61.50 a dollar, down 11 paise compared to previous day's closing value of 61.39 a dollar.

Indian Stock Market Closing News – Nifty ends below 8300

The market has ended lower ahead of December F&O expiry day. The Nifty was down 57.00 points at 8267.00. The Sensex slipped 195.33 points at 27506.46. About 1070 shares have advanced, 1851 shares declined, and 115 shares were unchanged.

 Tata Power tripped 3 percent while other losers in the Sensex were Sesa Sterlite, Tata Steel, Coal India and L&T. The gainers include NTPC, Bajaj Auto, Cipla, Bharti Airtel and Hero MotoCorp.
