Asian stocks rose on Thursday with Japanese stocks gaining after a committee advising the ministry that oversees the world's largest pension fund said it no longer needs to focus on domestic bonds.

The market sentiment was also boosted by data showing that foreign funds remained net buyers of Indian stocks on 5 March 2014. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 737.29 crore on Wednesday as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE, 610 shares gained and 177 shares fell. A total of 45 shares were unchanged.

Stock Market Tips: Reliance Communications Falls

Intraday volatility continued as key benchmark indices recovered from lower level after giving away almost entire intraday gains in mid-morning trade.

Shares of India's Reliance Communications fall 1.7 percent after a unit of rival Bharti Airtel, Bharti Infratel, entered into a tower sharing pact with Reliance Industries.

The deal with Bharti reduces the prospect that Reliance Communications and Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecoms unit of Reliance Industries, will expand their tower sharing deal from last year.

Reliance Jio Infocomm signed a deal worth 12 billion rupees ($221 million) in June 2013 to share Reliance Communications fibre optic network for 4G services.
