Sensex, Nifty open firm; SBI gains 2, Tata Steel falls

The market opened on positive note driven by strong global cues. The Sensex was up 140.39 points or 0.52 percent at 27346.45, and the Nifty up 46.35 points or 0.56 percent at 8270.55. About 608 shares have advanced, 177 shares declined, and 67 shares are unchanged. SBI, NTPC, M&M, Vedanta and Bharti are top gainers while Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's Labs and Cipla are major losers in the Sensex.

The Indian rupee gained in the early trade. It has opened higher by 17 paise at 63.48 per dollar versus 63.65 Thursday.

Nifty ends above 8200 amid pressure; Hindalco, SBI gain 3%
The Sensex ended down 45.04 points at 27206.06 and the Nifty down 14.30 points at 8221.15. About 1484 shares have advanced, 1214 shares declined, and 159 shares are unchanged. Hindalco and SBI was up 3 percent while Bajaj Auto, M&M and Tata Steel were other top gainers in the Sensex. Losers included Vedanta, Sun Pharma, Infosys, HDFC and Wipro.

Stock Market Open Sharply Lower

Sensex falls over 200 pts, Nifty below 8200; NTPC gains 3%

The market has opened sharply lower. The Sensex is down 226.04 points or 0.8 percent at 27025.06, and the Nifty is down 40.30 points or 0.5 percent at 8195.15. About 288 shares have advanced, 316 shares declined, and 75 shares are unchanged.

Vedanta, Infosys, Tata Motors, ITC and HUL are major losers in the Sensex. Among the gainers are NTPC, Bharti Airtel, Cipla and HDFC.

The Indian rupee opened flat at 63.97 per dollar on Thursday against previous close of 64 per dollar.

Stock Market End with 1.4% Higher

After a volatile day, the market ended at higher levels. The Sensex was up 373.62 points or 1.4 percent at 27251.10 and the Nifty ended up 108.50 points or 1.3 percent at 8235.45. About 1652 shares  advanced, 1051 shares declined and 160 shares were unchanged.

Banks surged through out the day with big gainers like Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI. GAIL and BHEL were other top gainers in the Sensex. Among the losers were Hindalco, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Vedanta and Bajaj Auto.

The Sensex is at 27,189.31 up 322 points or 1.1 percent  while the Nifty is up 94.20 points or 1.1 percent at 8221.15. GAIL, Hero Motocorp, ICICI Bank, HDFC and M&M are top gainers in the Sensex. Among the losers are Hindalco, Vedanta and NTPC.
